I have seen Dr. Sylvester for the past 3 to 4 years for my annual female checkup and all has been well until this year. All of my annual exams have been routine until two weeks ago when she felt a mass of some sort on my left side. Because I am post menopausal, this was an unusual finding. Because my mother died of ovarian cancer, it was quite frightening for me. She set me up for an ultrasound and told me she would call me with the results. This Friday will be 2 weeks and I still have not heard from her. I have called her office twice asking for the results and on both occasions was told that they would give her the message, but that she usually went over the results at a future office visit.......one that for me was scheduled for 4 weeks after the ultrasound. I don't believe that a woman should have to wait 4 weeks to find out whether she does or does not have a disease as frightening and deadly as ovarian cancer, and while it may seem logical to feel that "No News is Good News", that doesn't really work for a patient who is worried and frightened about what may be going on in her body and just wants to be told that everything is okay or that further steps need to be taken. By the grace of God, I was able to find a physician who gets this and has some compassion for her patients and who was willing to see me quickly to go over my results with me and put my mind at rest. In my opinion, if you are looking for cookie cutter medicine, this office is great. But if you want someone who will recognize your fears and treat those fears with compassion and understanding, you will not find it here, either in the staff or in the doctor.
